27th session of the General Conference on Weights and Measures with the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Poland

On November 15-18, 2022, the delegation of the Republic of Poland, led by the President of GUM, prof. J. Semaniak, took part in the 27th Session of the General Conference on Measures in Versailles near Paris.

During the meeting, traditionally chaired by the president of the French Academy of Sciences, a number of important resolutions were adopted, including:

• universal application of the Metre Convention,

• definition of a second,

• used SI prefixes,

• the budget of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).

Mutual relations between the bodies listed in the Metre Convention and formal aspects related to their nomenclature were also discussed.

The participants of the meeting got acquainted with the reports on the work of consultative committees operating within the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) and listened to the representative of the Kazakhstan embassy, ​​who in his speech raised the issues of closer cooperation between the BIPM and UNESCO.

The delegation of the Republic of Poland actively participated in meeting, e.g. referring to Resolution D on leap seconds, including the proposal to amend it by the Russian Federation; raising issues regarding the mode of payment of contributions to the BIPM; exchanging experiences and discussing further possibilities of cooperation with delegations from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and India.

One of the points of the program was a visit to the BIPM laboratories, during which the scope of measurements and the type of equipment used were discussed.
