On 18th - 19th October this year, in Sèvres the meeting of NMI (National Metrology Institute) directors and representatives of the signatory countries of the Metric Convention with the participation of the GUM delegation took place.

The annual meeting, which began several years ago, is aimed at discussing the current trends in world metrology, the issues related to the functioning of the International Bureau of Measures, as well as preparing for the General Conference on Metrology. This year participants got acquainted with very interesting presentations such as quantum metrology, important not only for metrology, but also for the development of science in general.

Additionally, an interesting discussion on the impact of metrology on decision makers, mainly on governments, was presented, as well as the very important for the present metrology document - work plan of the International Bureau of Measures. An interesting and important addition to the meeting was a visit to the French equivalent of the GUM, LNE (Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais). LNE, founded in 1901, is the world's leading NMI, which conducts advanced research in the fields of chemistry, mass, optics, etc. GUM representatives were acquainted with the projects such as the key watt-weighing project, as well as basic information on LNE.
